The Steve R. Allen Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable organization based in Atlanta, Georgia USA. It was envisioned and created by internationally renowned Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African American History and Culture and Eight-time Olympic artist Steve R. Allen.
Mr. Allen has expressed a desire to share his artistic gift with young people and also help expose them to the wider world through Visual Arts. From a very early age, Mr. Allen expressed an interest in seeing the world and his artistic gift has allowed him to do so.
The Steve R. Allen Foundation’s focus is the introduction and promotion of Fine Art to young people in the USA and the world. This focus has led to the development and presentation of various art education workshops around the world.
The Foundation seeks to identify and work with young artists so as to nurture and develop their talents while assisting them in the promotion of their work. The Foundation helps to expose young artists to established artists and provide them an opportunity to work with and be mentored by them.
Our primary program is “The Art of Seeing. What do you see?”. The program is part of our “S.T.E.A.M” (Science, Technology, Education, Arts, and Mathematics) initiative. The program was created by Steve R. Allen and Dr. Fiesta Kagler-Martin, Ph.D. It introduces young people to the Arts in myriad forms and demonstrates how all five disciplines are in some ways related and can work together.
We work primarily with young artists to help them recognize their unique gifts. This recognition can help enable them to make lasting and positive contributions to society.
We are working to identify youth to participate in the program in the USA but also to travel with Mr. Allen nationally and abroad to widen their exposure to the world.
Our goal is to help young people view the world in a way that transcends their immediate circumstance. The Foundation’s aim is for them to see themselves as global citizens with limitless potential.
We also work with artists that are “not so young”. The purpose is to show that it is never too late to express yourself artistically. This story is the story of the founder of the organization. Mr. Allen began his career as an artist at the age of 38 after resigning from his job. Since that time he has not looked back.
